Through my own engagement with psychotherapy I have learned to live a richer and fuller life, to accept myself and others more fully, and to become aware of what has held me back. An expanded perspective has allowed me to make better choices in friendships, love, and work. It was this experience that inspired me to pursue a career as a clinical social worker and psychotherapist.
I earned a Master of Social Work from Hunter College, a certificate in alcoholism and substance abuse counseling from The New School, and a certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy. I am currently in training to become a certified sex addiction therapist. I was the recipient of the 2012 Emerging Social Work Leader award from the National Association of Social Workers, NYC Chapter.
In addition to my private psychotherapy practice, I have worked as a social worker and psychotherapist in hospitals, social service agencies, intensive outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, harm reduction agencies, and the LGBT Community Center's mental health and substance abuse program. I have supervised clinical social workers and social work students for the last 10 years. I was the chairman of the LGBT committee of the National Association of Social Workers, NYC chapter for four years and currently sit on the board of NALGAP - National Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Addiction Professionals and their Allies.
Since I can only keep what I have by giving it away, I have taken great joy in sharing the wealth of knowledge given to me by teachers, mentors and supervisors by writing for publication and conducting workshops at local and national conferences. My presentations and workshops have addressed addictive disorders, LGBT cultural competency and meeting the challenge of doing healing work with gay men who have problematic relationships with crystal meth and sex. I have also taught on the graduate level and presented training workshops on mental health, addictive disorders, harm reduction, LGBT issues and disability.
I'm happy to explore how I can help. Please get in touch.
