Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
MBSR is an evidence-based experiential 8-week mindfulness training program developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. MBSR is the most scientifically researched and utilized mindfulness program in the world. This intensive experiential program combines mindfulness meditation, gentle movement and body-awareness practices and group processing with practical education about stress. MBSR training helps participants relate differently to stresses in their lives and offers the opportunity to cultivate resilience and emotional intelligence. MBSR is backed by 40 years of research showing that people who complete the course improve their relationship with acute and chronic stress, alleviate physical and mental distress and achieve a greater sense of awareness and enthusiasm for life.

What is included in the course?
Each of the 8 weekly 2 ½ hour classes includes formal mindfulness meditation practices and gentle mindful movement. We also will have large and small group discussions that explore our habits of mind in order to learn how these patterns of reactivity can contribute to stress and discover alternate ways of responding with more balance and equanimity. Between classes 5 and 7 there is a full day of practice on a weekend day.
Recorded mindfulness meditation and movement practices will be received along with a manual of home practices and assignments to be completed between each class.
The 8-week MBSR class is a deep dive into mindfulness. You will be invited to make a commitment to attend all classes including the all day class, complete 45 to 60 minutes of home practice and other reflective assignments every day between classes.
MBSR is not psychotherapy but it is a powerful complement to traditional therapeutic treatments.
